5 alternatives to Access for a web and mobile world

Access is a revolutionary concept, because it prentent that a regular human (not a programmer) could create a database application for himself. In same way a musician does not need to program to use the computer for composing music or an architect does not to program to use the computer to design a house, a business user should be able to use his computer to solve his problem without programming or depend on programmers.
Unfortunately we have not in that point yet, and in the enterprise most things runs on application developed ad hoc by professional development teams. On the other hand, we're experiencing the appareance of a new sort of tools, to give the power to the business users. These tools are the successors of Access. Here you have some of them:
  • Noobeek: It’s like Access for the web with mobile support and available on the cloud. It has a free plan.
  • QuickBase: It's rather a development tool, but allows creating cloud-based applications. With a 30 days trial.
  • Sonadier: Uses a drag-and-drop editor, like VisualBasic.
  • Fieldbook: Like a spreadsheet on the web.
  • Salesforce App Cloud: This is a complete development platform.
